Top 7 reasons not to choose Camden Greenway

1. The lease agreement is extremely unfavorable to the tenant. The industry standard Texas Apartment Association lease agreement is not what Camden uses. Instead they have crafted their own. In a TAA lease, tenants are NOT responsible for cleaning the apartments at the end of their leases, whereas in a Camden lease the apartment must be spotless.

2. Crime Stats - Sure everywhere has crime, but when security is intermittent at best, the parking gates are constantly disfunctional, and the lighting around the complex is non-existent, it is no wonder that there have been several breakins, as well as auto thefts.

3. Sure the apartment is pretty and relatively new, but the walls and ceilings are extremely thin. Noise - is a perpetual problem, whether it be from loud college aged neighbors or simply someone walking in the floor above. Camden Greenway is also sandwiched between the wonderful sounds of Southwest Freeway, the local bar - Purple Melvin, and a lovely strip club. Ideal location indeed.

4. Parking - Wouldn't it be nice to be able to park when you get home? Like most potential tenants, I visited the leasing office during the day,when parking was plentiful. After 5 p.m. it's a completely different story. Parking garages are difficult to navigate with excessive speedbumps, and parking spots on the first floor are always taken. Spots are very tight and it is very tough to see around corners.

5. The toilets have a chronic problem with flushing above the 1st floor. When something breaks like the doors, or garbage disposal, it takes forever to get them fixed. Unlike other apartment complexes, Camden does not have a guarantee of a 24 hour turnaround on repairs, nor do repair people give advance notices before they enter your apartment for unrequested repairs and pest removal treatment. There was a 2 foot hole in the 2nd floor concrete of the parking garage; it took them a month to catch on and finally fix it.

6. The fees are outrageous. The pet deposit is one of the highest in the neighborhood - $500 ($300 that is non-refundable). The security deposit is now $600; it had been around $500 when I moved in. They might try to screw you with a program called SureDeposit; it's an "alternative" to the security deposit where you pay $50 or $60, rather than the full deposit amount but you never see the money again. Did I mention there is a monthly garbage fee, and yet no garbage removal service?

7. Amenities have been going down the drain. They used to have a tanning booth available in the workout room, now it's gone. There used to be a staffperson devoted to organizing community events; that person has left and has not been replaced.
